Yoon Kang, a partner in our Toronto office, has been recognized as a top female legal practitioner in the area of patents. Yoon’s practice has focused on patent litigation and prosecution for over 15 years. She is responsible for leading the Life Science practice in the firm’s Toronto office. She advises global pharmaceutical innovators and research institutions on all aspects of patent rights. In addition, Yoon plays a leading role in the firm’s life sciences litigation practice. Yoon has significant experience in representing pharmaceutical clients in litigation matters including under the Patented Medicines (Notice of Compliance) Regulations before the Federal Court of Canada.

Keltie Sim Luft, a partner in our Toronto office, has been recognized as a top female legal practitioner in the area of trademarks. Keltie’s practice has focussed on the domestic and international clearance, prosecution, portfolio management, acquisition and licensing of trademarks for over 30 years. Her superior range of depth and experience covers all aspects of the trademark procurement process, including: providing availability and infringement opinions; filing and prosecuting applications; handling trademark oppositions, cancellation and enforcement matters; managing portfolios; and drafting and reviewing licensing, co-existence, joint venture and settlement agreements. Keltie has acted on behalf of clients based in Canada and internationally, operating within a vast array of industries.

Ekaterina Tsimberis, an associate in our Montreal office, has been recognized as a top female legal practitioner in the area of trademarks. Ekaterina calls on over a decade of experience to assist clients faced with litigation related to trademark infringement, copyright infringement and passing-off proceedings before the Federal Court of Canada. Ekaterina acts on behalf of local and foreign clients before the Canadian Intellectual Property Office to secure trademark registrations, oppose applications, and strike out registrations. She regularly provides registrability and availability opinions to clients looking to select new trademarks or to expand the range of products and services covered by existing trademarks. Ekaterina also manages extensive trademark portfolios and provides strategic counselling to assist clients with identifying, building and defending their most important intellectual property assets. In addition to obtaining trademark protection in Canada, Ekaterina works to obtain trademark registrations abroad for clients through the firm's vast network of foreign correspondents.

Since 1994, the Expert Guides have identified leading legal practitioners considered by clients and peers to be the best in their field. Expert Guides: Women in Business Law, first released in 2010, is based on the results of questionnaires completed by senior practitioners and in-house counsel involved in each practice area in over 90 jurisdictions, asking them to nominate leading practitioners based on their work and reputation.
