Smart & Biggar/Fetherstonhaugh has also been recognized as a Tier One firm in the areas of patent prosecution and patent contentious. In total, 12 of our professionals were recognized in the handbook as IP Stars:

The Managing Intellectual Property IP Handbook has been a valuable resource for global IP professionals for over 20 years. In 2014, Managing IP expanded their analysis of the leading IP firms across 80+ jurisdictions to include information about the leading IP lawyers in the market. To facilitate these new ranking tables, they have divided the research into two unique Handbooks; Trade Mark & Copyright published in May 2014 and Patent published in July 2014. Each publication contains rankings and analysis of the leading IP firms and individuals around the globe, published as practice area Handbooks, creating an important utility for in-house counsel and senior law firm partners.

Rankings in the Handbooks are based on extensive research among IP practitioners carried out over a six month period. A team of researchers in London, New York and Hong Kong sought responses from thousands of practitioners by phone, surveys, email and in face-to-face meetings, making this the most comprehensive and authoritative survey of the IP legal market yet published.
