Smart & Biggar leads Canadian intellectual property law in the 2016 edition of The Legal 500 Canada
October 20, 2015

Smart & Biggar is honoured to be selected as a ‘Top Tier’ firm in the category of Intellectual Property — the highest ranking given to firms in the 2016 edition of The Legal 500 Canada. Smart & Biggar is proud to be one of only two firms, and the sole Canadian-only firm, to receive this honour. We were also lauded as "a standout boutique” and “exceptionally good within the IP litigation sphere”.

In addition, Mark Evans was selected in the guide as a top leading lawyer in intellectual property law and recognized as a “pre-eminent name for trademark law.”. Other partners identified in the directory for their leading roles in Canadian IP matters included Steve Garland (“among the best”), Francois Guay (“a key name in Montreal”) and Gunars Gaikis (“extremely sharp and strategic”).

For 27 years, The Legal 500 has been analysing the capabilities of law firms across the world, with a comprehensive research programme revised and updated every year to bring the most up-to-date vision of the global legal market. The Legal 500 series assesses the strengths of law firms in 106 jurisdictions. Rankings are based on feedback from 250,000 clients worldwide, submissions from law firms and interviews with leading private practice lawyers, and a team of researchers who have unrivalled experience in the legal market. The Legal 500 began covering Canada for the first time in 2013, with its inaugural 2014 edition published in October 2013.
