Smart & Biggar welcomes associates John Sparks and Franco Silletta

Smart & Biggar/Fetherstonhaugh is pleased to welcome associates John Sparks and Franco Silletta to the firm. John and Franco are two of seven associates who joined the firm in 2016.

John Sparks has returned from his articles to join our Vancouver office as an associate. John’s practice focusses on a broad range of IP matters, particularly the prosecution of electrical and computer based patents and intellectual property litigation. He holds a B.Sc from Queens University and a J.D from the University of Victoria. He was called to the British Columbia Bar in 2016.  During his undergraduate studies, John was a four time Chancellor’s Scholar for academic and extracurricular accomplishment. Before deciding to pursue a legal education, he worked for BlackBerry as a Hardware Design Validation Project Coordinator.  

Franco Silletta has returned from his articles to join our Vancouver office as an associate. Franco’s practice focusses on a broad range of IP matters, particularly prosecuting and drafting patents in mechanical, electrical and computer-based technologies, and assisting clients in trademark, litigation, and licensing matters. He holds a B.Eng with Distinction from the University of Victoria and a J.D from the University of Victoria. He was called to the British Columbia Bar in 2016. During his legal studies, Franco was awarded the Law Society of British Columbia Gold Medal for the highest cumulative grade point average of the graduating class. He also won numerous class prizes, including in Intellectual Property Law. Prior to joining the firm, Franco clerked for Madam Justice MacKenzie and Mr. Justice Savage at the British Columbia Court of Appeal
