Strategic IP counselling

Julie's expertise includes patent and trademark litigation as well as providing strategic advice to her clients in the context of IP transactions and contracts.

Her clients span from international corporations dealing with IP issues in multiple jurisdictions to smaller companies looking to implement strategies to grow using their IP assets.

Prior to joining Smart & Biggar, Julie practiced commercial and civil litigation in a large national firm. She also acted as an in-house counsel for a large international aerospace company where she advised the company’s senior management on various legal and business issues and managed lawsuits and claims.

Julie is thorough, diligent and known for the quality of her work. Julie is fluently bilingual which allows her to seamlessly represent her clients in both official languages before the Courts.

Julie’s in-house experience allows her to understand and assess business realities from a client’s point of view and develop legal solutions that are tailored, practical and timely. She dedicates the time and energy required to gain in depth understanding and knowledge of her client’s industry, realities and challenges.

Having earned a J.D. from the Faculty of Law at Queen’s University and an LL.B. from the Faculty of Law at Sherbrooke University, Julie is knowledgeable in both civil and common law legal systems. During her studies at Sherbrooke University, Julie was awarded the Prix de la magistrature for the quality of an oral presentation she gave to a panel of judges and for her academic achievement in her civil procedure and evidence courses. Julie also received the Senator Frank Carrel Scholarship during her studies at Queen’s University.
