An IP litigator focused on life sciences with a high standard of excellence

Tierney practices intellectual property litigation, with a focus on the life sciences field, representing clients in the pharmaceutical, biologics, medical devices and natural health products industries. She is involved in all aspects of litigation and regulation, including drafting court documents, corresponding with expert witnesses and preparing opinions.

Her high record of achievement is well established. She was the recipient of the Criminal Lawyers’ Association Prize in Criminal Law, and recognized for having the highest grade in the Intellectual Property, Information & Technology Area of Concentration. She was also awarded a writing prize for her paper titled “Regulating Tissue Engineering in Canada.”

A dynamic and diverse practice including trademarks and copyright

Tierney’s practice also includes counselling, prosecution, and litigation for trademarks and copyrights, working with clients across a wide range of industries.  She covers all aspects of the trademark and copyright life cycle in her practice, including clearance, trademark prosecution, opposition, enforcement and anti-counterfeiting. Tierney provides practical advice to her clients on potential risks and clear, practical options for moving forward.

During her legal studies Tierney volunteered with the intellectual property section of the Community Legal Services, an organization which provides pro bono advice and representation to members of the London, Ontario community. She was also a research assistant to Professor Margaret Ann Wilkinson, Professor of Law and Director, Intellectual Property, Information and Technology at the University of Western Ontario. During her term, she co-authored two papers, “Copyright in Photographs in Canada Since 2012” and “The Term of Copyright Protection in Photographs.”
