Sebastian Beck-Watt is an articling student in our Ottawa office, and has recently completed his Juris Doctor at Osgoode Hall Law School, York University.

During his legal studies, Sebastian was heavily involved in IP Osgoode, the Intellectual Property Law & Technology Program. He was a legal intern at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), Student Editor of the Intellectual Property Journal, Senior Editor and contributor to, and Fellow at the IP Osgoode Innovation Clinic. Sebastian was also a research assistant to Professor Giuseppina D’Agostino and Professor David Vaver.

In 2017, he was the winner of the CBA National Intellectual Property Section’s Law School Essay Contest for his paper, “Just Laugh It Off: Trademark Parody and the Expansion of User Rights.”

Sebastian graduated summa cum laude from the University of Ottawa with a degree in History, which he pursued in French immersion. In addition, he participated in a Co-operative Education Program, which allowed him the opportunity to work with Parks Canada and the Department of National Defence.

Prior to law school, Sebastian worked as an asset appraiser for Gordon Brothers-AccuVal, analyzing organizational inventory and equipment, primarily for the purpose of asset-based lending. He worked with small and medium-sized companies throughout Canada, conducting business in both French and English.
