Owen Cramer has over 10 years of experience in the drafting and prosecution of patent and industrial design applications. He also regularly provides strategic advice to clients in connection with procuring and maintaining effective intellectual property protection in these areas.
Owen has a strong background in the design, commissioning, troubleshooting and testing of high technology products and has participated at various levels in projects related to: precision measurement systems; precision mechanical engineering; optical and electro-optical systems; acoustics; and laser engineering. This experience in diverse fields of technology has equipped him to evaluate potential advantages of new technologies. He has an in-depth knowledge of the high-technology product development cycle, including concept, design, product launch and field support. In addition to his strong engineering background, Owen's four years of experience as an in-house patent manager in a large high-tech company have afforded him an appreciation of the intellectual property process from a company’s perspective.
Owen regularly assists Canadian clients operating in the electrical, information technology, clean energy, electro-optical, mechanical, petro-chemical and communications technology fields. He has drafted and successfully prosecuted many applications for inventions related to alternative energy generation, CAD systems, medical devices, mining operations, SAGD, oil sands and other hydrocarbon processing. He also regularly liaises with foreign associates to assist them with procuring Canadian intellectual property rights for their clients.
