Matthew R. Leaper serves clients in all aspects of patent counselling, including patent application drafting and prosecution, primarily within the computer, electrical, and mechanical arts.

Matthew is frequently called on by domestic and international clients to support the acquisition and development of new technologies by advising on patentability and portfolio strategy. In addition, he routinely helps his clients manage risk by conducting infringement analyses, preparing validity opinions, and drafting agreements regarding the assignment, licensing and transfer of protected technologies.

Matthew has developed subject matter expertise in numerous technical areas and is highly skilled at using that expertise to generate value for his clients. Over his career he has drafted over 50 patent applications and prosecuted hundreds of pending applications around the world, and across a wide range of technologies including: diagnostic sensors, energy efficiency technologies, laser technologies and applications, manufacturing methods, medical devices and implants, non-invasive surgical technologies, and software applications, including artificial intelligence and machine learning.

Prior to joining the firm, Matthew held several positions in the legal and engineering industry, including associate level work with two prominent intellectual property law firms on the U.S. East Coast, awarding him invaluable legal experience. In law school, he clerked for the City of Philadelphia, supporting the Mayor’s Office of Sustainability; a top tier intellectual property law firm, working in their medical device practice; and for the Drexel Entrepreneurial Law Clinic , where he counseled numerous technology start-ups.
