Marie Christine Bernier, an associate based in Montreal, advises clients on a wide range of intellectual property law issues, with a concentration on litigation and trademarks.

Focusing on intellectual property litigation in the areas of trademarks, patents and copyright, Marie Christine is involved in all steps of litigation, including collecting evidence and drafting written submissions to the Federal Court.

Her trademark practice focuses on counselling throughout the trademark lifecycle and she regularly performs trademark clearance searches and provides availability opinions, prepares and files trademark applications, and prosecutes trademark applications before the Canadian Intellectual Property Office.

Marie Christine works with companies of all sizes from local start-ups to multinational corporations and across industries areas to develop strong trademark portfolios that are aligned to their business objectives and guard against competitors.

In addition to her legal qualifications, she also holds an MBA which provides her with a strong foundation in strategic business issues.

During her legal studies, Marie Christine worked as a law student in an international law firm and in a non-profit organization that helps citizens to understand their legal rights and responsibilities. She worked as a volunteer for the legal clinic “La Clé de vos droits” and for the Pro Bono’s program of the University of Sherbrooke. Marie Christine was Vice-President of the LLB/MBA students association and an editorial team member of Revue de droit de l’Université de Sherbrooke.
