Strategic IP litigator informed with biotechnical expertise
Malcolm is a diligent patent litigator who is committed to understanding every client’s unique story and objectives as well as the relevant subject matter and intellectual property issues.
Malcolm’s practice focuses on patent litigation and enforcement. He regularly works with innovative pharmaceutical companies and draws on his life sciences and business background, including in proceedings under the Patented Medicines (Notice of Compliance) Regulations. He also has experience with trademark, copyright and trade secret disputes and is a Registered Trademark Agent. He has appeared before the Federal Court and the Ontario Superior Court of Justice.
Before pursuing a career in intellectual property law, Malcolm received his B.Sc., Biological Sciences (Chemistry Minor), from the University of Alberta (2010), and his M.Sc., Laboratory Medicine & Pathobiology, from the University of Toronto (2013). His M.Sc. thesis focused on protein biochemistry and signal transduction. He received his J.D./M.B.A. from the University of Toronto (2019).
Malcolm was a summer student in Smart & Biggar’s Toronto office in 2018 and returned as an articling student in 2019-2020.
