Laura Easton’s practice focuses on intellectual property litigation before the Alberta Court of Queen’s Bench and the Federal Court of Canada. She has extensive experience with general commercial litigation matters and employment law, and her experience includes seeking interim and interlocutory relief, including extraordinary remedies such as Anton Piller orders and mareva injunctions. Laura is involved in different aspects of litigation, including drafting court materials, preparing witnesses for examination and cross-examination, and representing clients before the courts. She has appeared in the Provincial Court of Alberta, Alberta Court of Queen’s Bench, Alberta Surface Rights Board and British Columbia Supreme Court, and she has also worked on matters before the Federal Court and the Alberta Court of Appeal.

Laura works with domestic and foreign clients across a range of industries, and has considerable experience working with companies in oil and gas, education, and aviation. She provides strategic solutions tailored to the needs of her clients and the reality of their respective industries.

Laura obtained a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Civil Law from the bilingual law program at McGill University in Montréal. Before joining Smart & Biggar, Laura practiced in the Calgary litigation group of a large international law firm.
