John Sparks’ practice focusses on a broad range of IP matters, particularly the prosecution of electrical and computer based patents and intellectual property litigation. This includes drafting and prosecuting electrical, computer, and mechanical patent applications, as well as assisting with all aspects of trademark IP litigation matters including trademark oppositions, trademark and copyright infringement, domain name disputes, and privacy and confidential information disputes.

From single inventors to large multinational corporations, John works with a wide range of clients. He understands the importance of IP to a business, and focusses on providing practical, client-oriented services.

John has a strong foundation of technical and legal education. During his undergraduate studies, John was a four time Chancellor’s Scholar for academic and extracurricular accomplishment. Before deciding to pursue a legal education, he worked for BlackBerry as a Hardware Design Validation Project Coordinator.

During his legal studies, John participated in the Law Centre clinical program, which gives students an opportunity to provide legal advice, assistance and representation to clients who cannot otherwise afford a lawyer. John also completed a co-op program which gave him a diverse array of legal work experience at the Public Prosecution Service of Canada, the British Columbia Ministry of Energy & Mines, and Dwyer Tax Lawyers.
