Dr. James Pan's practice involves all aspects of intellectual property law with a focus on patent procurement. He has in-depth experience in IP management and strategic counseling, preparing and prosecuting patent and industrial design applications in Canada, and managing the filing and prosecution of patent applications in the U.S., Europe, China, Japan, Korea and other jurisdictions worldwide. His practice also entails providing opinions on validity, patent and trade-mark infringement and industrial designs, and preparing agreements related to non-disclosure of confidential information and the assignment of IP rights.

Dr. Pan's work experience as an engineer in a military research and development institute and as a research scientist in a national subatomic research institute has provided him with considerable knowledge in the areas of physics, chemistry, computer science, and engineering. This extensive background in multiple scientific and engineering disciplines allows him to understand and appreciate even the most difficult technical aspects of inventions in a wide range of industries. His previous experience in business allows him to understand and appreciate both the practical and business needs of the clients that he works with. 

Dr. Pan's client activities involve international companies based in Canada, the U.S., Europe, and Asia, and Canadian companies of all sizes. He also has experience working with universities, IP firms and government agencies based in Canada, the United States, Europe and Asia.
