Biography

Ron Faggetter heads the patent acquisition group of our Toronto office. With over 20 years of experience, he has an in-depth understanding of the electrical and mechanical arts, encompassing technologies such as telecommunications, robotics, computer systems, optics, production line equipment and mechanical control systems. By virtue of representing Canadian clients on the world stage, Mr. Faggetter is well versed in approaches to U.S. prosecution which minimize file history estoppel and inequitable conduct.

Mr. Faggetter acts as a strategic advisor to a number of Canadian businesses, assisting them in utilising their IP rights to maximize their competitive position and in avoiding problems involving the IP rights of others. He has also gained considerable experience in crafting patent licenses.

As a published author and a public speaker, Mr. Faggetter has written and lectured on various topics including the protection of computer-related discoveries, the law and practice relating to patents, and the law and practice relating to industrial designs. He has acted as a tutor on behalf of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada for those studying toward their patent agent examinations.
